Here you have it folks, a direct quote from the Town of Collingwood website. I know the temptation is high to unleash your dog(s) while walking, but it is literally against the law. Not to mention, just because you believe your dog(s) to be friendly, does not mean everyone else’s are. Nor does everyone enjoying a stroll with their dog(s) WANT to deal with unknown off-leash dogs.
Please remember that we most likely have some people in town who are nervous of canines. We also have many dedicated dog owners  who may be working with their dogs on training, dealing with reactivity issues, working on fears, etc. Please, have the courtesy to keep your dogs on leash during walks. Ticks! The dreaded enemy.

Canada seems to have two seasons in my opinion. Winter and bug season. Us dog owners share a common enemy with our canine companion, and that is the tick. Now, in order to defeat your enemy in any case, you must know everything there is to know about them. Their needs, wants and weaknesses! What does a tick want? BLOOD! Where’s he going to get it? YOU OR YOUR DOG! Let’s kick this little blood sucker’s butt by becoming aware of how to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Ticks are parasitic athropods that feed on the blood of their hosts. Ticks enjoy catching a ride on the bodies of deer and birds until they find a nice patch of grass or a wooded area to hang out in until their next meal comes along (warm blooded mammals). Once a tick finds it’s next host, they use their mouth to latch on and sink their heads into the skin to ensure a tight grasp. This creates a secure position for the tick to chow down.
